What are Crossfit workouts?

These kinds of workouts are based on the Crossfit approach to physical fitness.  So, to understand these workouts, we need to understand what Crossfit is really all about. Perhaps you have heard of Crossfit, perhaps not.  If you are in the latter camp, then here’s a quick primer.

Crossfit Workouts Provide Conditioning and Strength Benefits

It offers functional movement, great intensity and constant variation. It is meant to help people improve their personal degree of fitness.  And their personal level of physical preparedness.  Many people from various walks of life utilize Crossfit: senior citizens, the police, the military and  fitness buffs who want to stay in shape.

With  this in mind, let us now look at a few workouts that define this approach to physical fitness. The following is going to briefly but thoroughly delve into all the various forms of Crossfit workouts that are quite common and are routinely practiced by participants in Crossfit exercises.

Crossfit Workouts – Body Weight Exercises

First up is the group of body weight exercises, which actually makes up the single-biggest group of all types of exercises. In all, there are 16 exercises that fall into this category of Crossfit workouts. In no particular order at all, they are the lunge, the L-sit, the knees-to-elbows, the jump rope, the handstand push-up, the burpee, the box jump, the back extension, the air squat, the ring dip, the muscle-up, the pull-up, the rope climb, the basic push-up, toes-to-bar and the sit-up.

Workouts such as the jump rope are among the most basic of the workouts, seeing as how the jump rope only requires, at its hardest application, two revolutions for every jump. At the same time, there are a lot more complicated Crossfit workouts such as the burpee, which involves a person starting in the standing position and dropping to the floor with the feet extended to the back. Then, the person will make contact with the floor with his chest before pulling his legs forward. Finally, he will land in the squatting position prior to standing up and finishing with a small jump.

CrossFit Workouts – Distance Movements

Next up are the distance movements, which are the smallest group of Crossfit workouts, consisting only of rowing and running! Lots of rowing exercises involve rowing simply for calories, and the running exercises involve distances that are generally between 200 meters and 1 mile.

The final group of workouts relates to movements with weights, which is a group that does not have as many exercises as the first group, but still features a fair amount of Crossfit workouts. The Crossfit workouts include the deadlift, the kettlebell swing, the clean, the snatch, the press, the squat, the thruster,  the sumo deadlift high pull, the wallball and the tire flip.

These movements with weights can be as simple as the deadlift or as complex as the sumo deadlift high pull. While the deadlift only involves a barbell that’s lifted up from the ground until an athlete reaches his standing position, the sumo deadlift high pull involves a person assuming a wide stance ]  and then lifting either the kettlebell or the barbell to just under his chin.

As you can see, the various Crossfit workouts are very diverse so that people participating in this physical fitness program are tested to the limit. People who are involved in Crossfit training are generally quite fit because these workouts push their bodies.
